#MatalanXmasTips Decorating your Home for Christmas
With presents to buy, cards to write, sparkly dresses to fit into and a 6ft Christmas tree to decorate, Christmas can seem like one of the most hectic months of the year. To take a bit of pressure off a busy December, we’ve enlisted the help of some top bloggers and asked them to share their top Christmas tips and tricks with our readers this month.
Dressing your dinner table this Christmas
Christmas is the season to be jolly and family and friends unite by coming together to celebrate, laugh and love during the jolliest time of the year. Here at Matalan HQ, we simply adore the festive period and our Homeware team have thought of everything this season to make sure your house has a homely feel. From choosing your colour scheme to table decorations, make sure your home looks classic, classy and altogether fabulous this Christmas.
Style Project Winner – Partywear
With the party season fast approaching and purses quickly emptying on Christmas presents, finding that perfect party dress on a budget can seem like a bit of a mission! Thankfully last month we had three bloggers on hand to show us just how it’s done when it comes to finding some great partywear without the price tag.
We loved all of the outfits that our bloggers put together, from the coveted peplum dress to the sequin skirt, but there of course can only be one winner!
And the winner is… Kerry from Lived with Love!
#AskPhilip: Party wear style advice with Philip Armstrong
Finding ‘the one’, that perfect party dress for the Christmas season, can seem like a one woman mission. Where do you start? Thankfully Philip Armstrong was on hand this week to dispense his fashion designer know-how, answering all your Christmas party season style questions.
We took to Twitter for the chat, here are the top tweets:
Buying on a budget
@dellilah1982: I’m on a tight budget. Could you suggest a dress to invest in which is NOT an LBD please – thank you
@philiparmstro: The Cybil leopard pencil dress with lace capped sleeve
@dellilah1982: Many thanks for the suggestion – I like leopard prints
Christmas jumpers: The easiest way to spread festive cheer
With the 1st December fast approaching this weekend, we are starting to prepare for the annual Christmas take-over that is set to hit our homes. Whether you prefer a real or artificial tree, it shall soon be taking pride of place in your living room and here at Matalan, we are on hand to help you through the season with our fantastic selection of decorations, lights and trees in a variety of colours just waiting to be bought and adorned. But let’s not forget the one holiday staple that must be donned at all times…. we are of course talking about the faithful, fun and quite frankly, festive Christmas jumper.
Trend Watch: Winter Florals and Pastels
Just because the temperature has plummeted, it doesn’t mean your wardrobe has to take a step off the style barometer, so take this seasons prettiest trend and trade bold block colours for soft pastel hues with the look we love: winter florals and pastels. Create luxurious layered up looks suitable for a day in the office or weekend wear by combining your ever faithful chunky knits with soft feathered tones to create a cold and colourful juxtaposition.
The Alternative Christmas Dress
Hi, I’m Alice-May Purkiss, a Northerner on loan to London who loves all things fashion and vintagee’s a shopping fanatic who writes for Most Wanted – the lifestyle magazine from VoucherCodes.co.uk
Now that we’ve got Halloween and Bonfire Night out of the way, the festive season is officially well underway. Though I won’t be singing carols or eating mince pies until 1st December, there are certainly a few things I’ll be preparing for early – the most pressing of those is what to wear for the Christmas party.
If your office is like mine, the Christmas party is the biggest annual event of the social calendar. From early November, people can’t stop talking about it, especially what they’re going to wear. For some, donning a traditional party frock just isn’t going to work. Not everyone loves dresses, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the festive frivolities. You can look just as good as your colleagues in a pair of sharp trousers or a snazzy skirt – you’ve just got to know how to style them.

Our fantastic ladies knitwear event is now on and must end on Friday 22nd November!
