Charity
Matalan has been a supporter of the NSPCC and ChildLine charities since 2004. Matalan owner John Hargreaves launched the NSPCC Safe Place Appeal and the Hargreaves Centre was opened and named after Hargreaves himself.
Since then The Safe Place Appeal has raised more than £16.5 million through a combination of public donations and fundraising done across all Matalan stores and the Head Office based in West Lancashire.
Working to protect and offer support and guidance to children and families, the NSPCC has 40 centres across the UK, including the Hargreaves Centre based in Liverpool, which we are very proud to work in cooperation with.
The centre is a safe place and a haven for children and young people who have suffered abuse and is a sanctuary to retreat to. Fundraising initiatives are ran year-long across our company including raffles, dress-down days, and each individual store raising the profile of the charities to both staff and customer’s alike.
We want to use our blog to highlight our efforts and document the difference that is being made across our team, and more importantly where the money goes.
